About

Welcome to my slice of the internet! I’m glad you’re here. Let me take a moment to introduce myself.

I’m a Midwestern girl living life as a Colorado transplant. I love Jesus, people, talking, coffee and writing. A few years ago, I took my love of digital communications strategy and transformed it into a communications agency called Melan Communications.

Melan is the Greek word for ink. In life, ink signifies permanence. We sign contracts and marriage licenses with ink. We get tattoos with ink. When we want something to last forever, we make sure to use ink.

Communicating online is the same way. What we say on social media sticks with our customers and peers for a long time. It is why I started my business. Communicating online can be tricky. Having a solid digital communication strategy regarding how and where you communicate who you are and what you do is essential to your success. Whether someone finds your website or visits you on social media, I want to help you share your story and build lasting relationships with your audience.

With more than thirteen years of marketing, public relations, and digital communications experience, I’m passionate about helping nonprofits and churches expand their reach online. Compassion International, Focus on the Family, with Dr. Russell Moore and the ERLC (Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission for the Southern Baptist Convention), ChurchLeaders.com (a property of Outreach Inc.), aware3, With Open Eyes, and Authentic Intimacy are just a few of the organizations I’ve had the privilege of working with.

A speaker and presenter, I’ve shared about the opportunities and necessities of social media, public relations, and digital communication strategy at That Church Conference,  for the Pikes Peak Small Business Development Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and at the Best of Social Media Summit.

Additionally, I am a contributing author to the book Trending Up, a resource created to help churches with social media best practices and strategy.

I’m an ENFP, an Enneagram 8, and my top Gallup strength is strategy. All that means is I love helping people accomplish their priorities in the most strategic way possible. I live in Colorado Springs with my two cats. When I’m not working, I’m mildly obsessed with reading, coffee, and word games.

  1. I know Coco Lee! That’s awesome that your hubby speaks Mandarin. I love the language, but I’m with you. So slow to learn. That’s why I learned Korean instead. But Mandarin is fun to sing along with. Have you all listened to any Wang Lee Hom? He’s my absolute favorite. 🙂

  2. I’m a twitter follower of yours and just discovered your blog and am loving it. I’m learning to speak Korean. I love coffee and Jesus. Although, not in that order. Look forward to reading more from you.

    1. Linds! What’s your twitter handle?

Also, thanks for stopping by! I love that you’re learning Korean. What got you interested? (And I’m always down with a reader that loves coffee and Jesus, although not in that order. ) 🙂

Our youngest is Korean born. So I’m learning to hopefully teach him. And you? Any tips?

And did I see that you’re an Asian Pop lover on your twitter bio? Girl we gotta talk. For the longest time the only way to help calm our youngest when he was upset was to turn on Kpop. 🙂

        Nice to meet you!

      2. Yes! Let’s meet! I’m always excited to share my love of Asian culture. 🙂 Regarding learning Korean, I just fell in love with the people and the culture. Worked in a Korean church for almost two years. I have tips, mainly listening to music and watching their dramas. But other ones as well. Find me on Facebook, I’d love to connect. 🙂
