Some Days are Diamonds

Truth be told, I’m not a huge John Denver fan. I like him well enough, but I’m not a crazy fan. (We’ve already established that I’ve got enough borderline obsessions.) However, I do love me some Amos Lee. That man could pretty much sing the terms and conditions of iTunes to me and I’d be enthralled.

Amos has contributed to a new John Denver tribute album called “Music Is You” and covers the song “Some Days are Diamonds”. When I heard this song, I kind of melted into the ground. The emotion in Amos’ voice is heartbreaking – and the lyrics are stunning. They truly describe how life can be in terms of love lost and love gained. And even above love, the lyrics so touch on the emotion of every day living. I haven’t listened to John Denver’s original version, but I don’t know if I could. This version is so stunning. I’m passing it along to you as my song of the day. I hope you enjoy.

Some Days are Diamonds – John Denver, as sung by Amos Lee
When you ask how I’ve been here without you, I like to say I’ve been fine, and I do.
But we both know the truth is hard to come by. And if I told the truth, that’s not quite true.
Some days are diamonds, some days are stone. Some times the hard times won’t leave me alone.
Some times the cold winds blow a chill in my bones.
Some days are diamonds, some days are stone. Now the face that I see in my mirror, more and more is a stranger to me.
More and more I can see there’s a danger in becoming what I never thought I’d be.
Some days are diamonds, some days are stone. Some times the hard times won’t leave me alone.
Some times the cold winds blow a chill in my bones.
Some days are diamonds, some days are stone. Some days are diamonds, some days are stone. Some times the hard times won’t leave me alone.
Some times the cold winds blow a chill in my bones.
Some days are diamonds, some days are stone.
